Guideline draft CF-001

SYN-012

Guideline 4: Feedback matters

Feedback about your behaviour is important — take it seriously. One person's feedback may reflect a misunderstanding, a personality clash, or a moment needing repair; similar feedback from two people signals a possible pattern warranting introspection, pausing, asking for help, and changing behaviour; a wider pattern makes acting on it the community's responsibility. Some people will not give feedback in the moment because they do not feel safe doing so — delayed or second-hand feedback still counts. Impacting one person may be a clash; impacting many means you have moved outside the group's values. Direct feedback at a person's actions, not at the person. Nobody is expected to be perfect — only open to feedback.

Deliberately left open — CF-001 — the tool's specified incident-report precondition (complainant must have told the perpetrator to stop) sits in tension with this guideline's own "delayed feedback still counts"; evidence pending from Stage 2. Preserved, not resolved.

  • JBG-013 Feedback matters
  • JBG-014 If one person gives you feedback, it may be a misunderstanding, a personality clash, or a moment that needs repair.
  • JBG-015 If two people give you similar feedback, there may be a pattern emerging. That is the moment for introspection. It is best to pause, ask for help, and modify your behaviour.
