Repercussion draft

SYN-017

The community's ask, and self-exclusion

The ask is small and fair: be open to feedback and adjust when your actions make the space unsafe or erode trust — or take it elsewhere. Those who reject that minimum may not have a place in this free, safe space, and someone who has broken the community's trust warrants exclusion. A person who arbitrarily excludes harmless others, or continually harms the majority while showing no desire to improve, has in effect excluded themselves; the community's response simply makes that self-exclusion mindful and formal. There are only two levers: help those open to feedback, and exclude those who are not.

Deliberately left open — OPIN-178 is an open invitation from the sources to refine the self-exclusion wording — this draft is explicitly offered for that refinement.
Where this comes from · 10 source items

This draft merges what the community actually said across 10 source items — every source ID is permanent and traceable.

  • GTC-049 Self-responsibility required: You exclude yourself from our community when you exclude any individual for arbitrary reasons that don't negatively affect any other individual, and demonstrate no desire to educate or otherwise improve your attitude
  • OPIN-045 Not many levers to pull – mechanisms in place to help person who is open to feedback. If they aren’t open to feedback, then exclusion
  • OPIN-048 If people don’t agree, or too woke, as the ask is fair, then maybe not space for them. Want to play in free safe space, the minimum expectation
  • OPIN-060 We are saying within this community we require you to be open to feedback. Within this community if you behave in ways where people give you feedback (directly or indirectly) the community will ask for adjusted behavior. If feedback is not taken/behavior is not adjusted you might be asked to leave.
  • OPIN-072 If your actions make the space less safe, or causes a trust deficit, please stop, or continue somewhere else.
  • OPIN-102 "Mindful exclusion without judgment" is the only way to stabilize community when a participant continuously requires moderation mediation and it affects the majority in a negative way.
  • OPIN-111 Nuanced things: we value everyone’s safety more than in most public spaces that are not okay in our space. We may ask you to change or leave if no change. Practically, it appears implementable and communicable.
  • OPIN-176 Person has broken trust of community for exclusion.
  • OPIN-177 This is how I've worded it to make the person the focus so that they take (or have the option to take) self-responsibility. "You exclude yourself from our community when you exclude any individual for arbitrary reasons that don't negatively affect any other individual, and demonstrate no desire to educate or otherwise improve your attitude."
  • OPIN-178 (feel free to refine)
